Description
The beautiful and historic Phillips Chapel was completed in 1922 as the first permanent church building of Highland Park Baptist Church when Dr. JB Phillips was pastor. During the civil rights movement, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. came to Phillips Chapel to visit with Highland Park Baptist pastor, Dr Lee Roberson, who had his office in the back of Phillips Chapel. Chauncey-Goode Auditorium, constructed from surplus girders designed for an airplane hangar, was the second shortly after WWII in 1946. It was updated in 2005, and includes a large stage with two levels. The Hancock building provides space for classes and administration. Two large assembly areas and several small class rooms on each of the upper floors provide space for instruction, or for conversion to offices for church administrators. Together, the three buildings offer the opportunity for complete church operation. An onsite parking area of about .3 acres is supplemented by street parking, and other weekend parking options. Additional church facilities are available on adjacent parcels. Details are in the links to the right in the section titled "Attachments and Media". One link is titled "Sanctuary and Parking" and the other titled "Asbury Chapel and administrative Building". Building price details: $1,160,000.
